Marseille - Aix-en-Provence Day 4

Marseille - Aix-en-Provence Day 4
Statue at the top of Noailles market

The morning was a little frustrating at first but ended well. I set out for a market on a main shopping throughfare that turned out b to not exist. On the way I had walked through one in the Noailles district but I had no cash on me so I tried and failed to locate an ATM.

I got some breakfast and found my mood significantly improved. The weather was very good and I decided to head out in another direction towards a coffee roaster. The coffee there was very good and I bought a bag of beans from them as well. The waitress was English and she pointed me in the direction of an ATM.

In that direction I found a nice fruit and veg shop, and a wine shop selling sans alcool as well, so I bought a Rose and a Chardonnay to try.

After that I wended the 2 miles or so back to the apartment (Marseille is pretty spread out) and made a very good tomato and watercress sandwich, and had a glass of the chardonnay (not great) sitting on the balcony.

In the evening I headed for Aix on the local rattler train (40 minutes) to meet a friend and her partner. We had a good walk round the town. It is a really pleasant place to be, a very pretty and typical Provençal scene with wide boulevards, narrow alleys and lots of open spaces. I would definitely come back here in the day time for a proper look.

We went on to an Ethiopian restaurant and had a big sharing plate of various vegetable dishes with injeera, a fermented flat bread made with Teff. I loved every minute of it, not least because it was a pleasure to have proper conversation in English after 4 days of little more than please and thank you in my broken French.

I am planning to take it a little easy tomorrow and not take any trains in the next two days before I set off back on Friday!
